Rotunda Museum

Details

On 29 August 1829 the Rotunda Museum opened its doors for the education and entertainment of visitors to Scarborough. Thanks to the determination and financial support from local philanthropists, geologists, enthusiasts and local Scarborough societies, the Borough holds a fascinating collection of historical and geological significance that is nationally renowned. It is now recognised as an iconic building and centre of excellence for geology and palaeontology.

We wouldn't be where we are today without our local supporters, and so over this August bank holiday weekend we’ll be hosting a series of events to mark the milestone birthday and acknowledge the role that local societies played in our history.

On the Saturday and Sunday come along to enjoy hands on family friendly activities - including fossil handling and specimen identification - and interactive displays from societies and their specialists including;

• The Scarborough Field Naturalist Society
• The Whitby Naturalists’ Club
• The Rotunda Geology Group
• The Scarborough Archaeological Historical Society
• The Scarborough Photographic Society

Plus, we'll be giving away a special piece of Rotunda ‘birthday rock’ to take away with you. Yum!
