Armed Forces Day at Scarborough South Bay
Military Event, Sat 24 Jun 2017, free entry
Scarborough Armed Forces Day is a day to celebrate and say ‘Thank You’ to the British Armed Forces as well as being a family fun day out.
The event is now in its 9th year and attracts over 25,000 supporters. Taking place on the South Bay which is closed to traffic, the event covers Foreshore, West Pier and Sandside.
Listen to marching bands as they parade, talk to Veterans and find out what they did in the Armed Forces, support over 40 military charity stalls, watch the RNLI and the Coastguard Air to sea rescue with the Sikorksy helicopter, cheer on the sea cadets gun run, sing along with Chris Myers vintage singer, dance to 1940’s popular music, gaze longingly at the gleaming vintage cars, look to the skies for RAF aerial displays, treat yourself at the Vintage Fair, check out the vintage military vehicles display, see two wheeled ambulances from WW1, ask the Black Faced Villains about the Cockleshell Heroes!
The full extent of South Bay will be utilised giving a one mile event area – so wear comfy shoes! In addition to the event activities there are over 100 local businesses offering traditional seaside entertainment, cafes and restaurants, speed boat trips, and much more. Join us for the day, the weekend or even the week!
Flying the Flag ceremony starts the AFD week – the Mayor of the Borough of Scarborough will announce the raising of the special Armed Forces Day flag in a simple ceremony outside the Town Hall, St Nicholas Street, Scarborough.
