Coastival: Beyond the Descriptive

Coastival: Beyond the Descriptive

An exhibition by artist Anne Thalheim of new works about the novels Great Expectations by Charles Dickens and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë. Based on quotes from the novels, Thalheim puts on display objects to reveal the characters chosen.

Great Expectations is the basis for a vanitas entitled “Lost Expectations” about Miss Havisham’s to show her world being at a standstill. “Estella & Miss Havisham” is a double ‘portrait’ to show their unhealthy relationship, influence and their consequence.

Three characters from the novel Jane Eyre are interpreted in objects and book form: “Jane Eyre”, “Edward Fairfax Rochester” and “Bertha Antoinetta Rochester, (née Mason)”.
