A thousand years of ecclesiastical and maritime heritage are preserved in the historic port of Whitby. Fine houses, secret courtyards, alleys and ghauts remain to be discovered with the 'Storywalker' who, dressed in character costume will tell you stories and answer your questions.

If you want to know Whitby better and reach the parts that other visitors miss, join 'The Baron' for an entertaining walk designed to inform and amuse, as you discover the buildings and historical characters of this ‘Tawld Spot’.

Eastside Tour - This introduction tour takes you around the ancient heart of the old town, and includes the legend of the Penny Hedge, the Abbey Packhorse road, the 199 Steps, yards, alleys, and ghauts and embraces whaling, jet and smuggling in a one and a half hour walkabout.

Westside Tour - Examines the development of the shipbuilding and its allied industries of sail making, rope manufacture, the development of the railways and the advent of new Whitby in the reign of Queen Victoria.

Whitby New Town - Victorian Whitby at its best: elegant crescents, home for wealthy shipowners, large boarding houses, a private theatre, the gathering place for authors, and a hotel famous for its connections with Dracula.

Tombstone Tour - A closer look at St. Mary’s Parish Churchyard gives an informative insight of this important area of Whitby’s rich and varied heritage.

Walk Route: Amble around the streets of Whitby.

By Road:
A174 - At the roundabout take fist exit into Argyle Road. Right onto North Terrace. Follow along to end of road. The whale bone arch and Captain Cook monument and are to the left at the end before turning right onto East Terrace.
By Public Transport:
New Quay road to Peir road and the Kyber Pass to the Whale bone arch, West Cliff. Number 92 local bus up to the West cliff from Whitby bus station and Open top buses during the season run every 15 minutes.
