Yorkshire in Bloom 2005
Yorkshire in Bloom 2005 - AwardsScarborough Scarborough was awarded a gold and nominated as category winner in the coastal category, the Yorkshire in Bloom judges were very impressed with the town's entry and praised the high standards of floral displays and community involvement.As a result the town was nominated forward to represent Yorkshire in the National finals of Britain in Bloom for 2006, and preparations are now underway for the summer judging in the town from 31 July to 11 August. The results will be announced at an awards ceremony in Perth, Scotland on 21st September 2006. Cayton Cayton village won the Large village category with a Gold, with the Yorkshire in Bloom judges praising the floral features and innovative ideas to be found in the village. Cayton too were nominated to represent Yorkshire, this time in the Large Village category of the National finals of Britain in Bloom for 2006. Judging will take place in early August, with the awards ceremony on 21September in Perth Scotland. Filey Filey were awarded the Keep Britain Tidy award (Wybone Cup) and also achieved a Silver Gilt standard in the Coastal Category.
Yorkshire Rose Grow Your Own award Clarence Gardens had something of a make over in the summer of 2005, when it was transformed into a Dig for Victory garden. Parks & Countryside Services decided to commemorate the 60th anniversay of the end of World War 2 with a special kind of nostalgia. The innovative bed featured vegetables, fruit trees and flowers from that era, complete with an original Anderson Shelter. The bed was kindly sponsored by SSAFA Forces Help (Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) and children from Barrowcliff Infant School were on hand with war veterans to help plant the display.
