Egton - Out & About
Egton was once an important township, but is now a small
peaceful village set in traditional farmland with the old market
cross at its centre. Each year in August, Egton hosts one of the
largest Agricultural Shows in the area.
Egton Bridge is a picturesque village set in woodland in the
heart of the Esk Valley and adjacent to the River Esk, which is a
natural habitat for plants and animals including otters, salmon,
voles, kingfishers and dippers.
St Hedda’s Church is well worth a visit as it has a shrine to
Father Postgate who was born in Egton Bridge in 1599 and was
martyred for his faith 1679.
There is a regular bus service through this village, bus number
99.
