Sandsend - Out & About

Located at the foot of Lythe Bank Sandsend is a picturesque village with cottages set against a backdrop of cliffs and two meandering streams, which lead to the sandy beach.

When you enter Sandsend you cannot fail to be impressed by the magnificent sweep of the bay leading to the majestic ruins of Whitby Abbey in the distance.

Sandsend is a delightful village with pubs and cafés dotted along the sea front. Walking along the beach, which stretches 3 miles to Whitby, you will often see surfers on their boards, making the most of the waves.

We also have more information about Sandsend and Fossil Hunting walks as well as Whitby Attractions, Whitby Events Whitby Restaurants and Whitby Information & Churches nearby.

The beach is always a favourite with children of all ages. It has regularly been awarded the ENCAMS Seaside Award and if appropriate will be flying the distinctive blue and yellow flag. At low tide, a walk under the cliffs at the North of the village provides the possibility to explore the hidden world of rock pools where you may discover small fish, crabs, shell fish and anemones.

If you look carefully you may discover a Fossil or two. Let it bring out the child in you!

There is a regular bus service through this village, bus number X56.
