Scarborough

Scarborough, Britain’s first seaside resort, has been welcoming visitors for over 360 years and is still as popular as ever.

The Spa Bridge and Scarborough's south bay beach on a sunny day.

Scarborough is a great a place to stay for a holiday or short break.  The safe, sandy, accredited North Bay beach and South Bay beach are broken by a rocky headland on which stands a reminder of the past, the historic Scarborough Castle.

The resort offers first class attractions such as the award winning Sea Life Marine Sanctuary, Scarborough Art Gallery, the Rotunda Museum and of course the newly refurbished Scarborough Open Air Theatre - Europe's largest open air theatre (since Antiquity). Scarborough is also proud to be the home of many festivals, including Seafest, the iconic Scarborough Jazz Festival, Bike Week, Cycling, Scarborough Fayre, the UK Pro Surf Championships and the Scarborough Cricket Festival - providing you with year round events...the Yorkshire Coast truly is The Festival Coast!

The resort offers a great choice of high street shops and boutiques. The Brunswick Centre is a prestigious all-weather shopping centre with a department store and thirty-five other retail outlets. The Centre is located in Scarborough’s pedestrianised shopping precinct, which, with the surrounding streets, has many individual boutiques, specialist shops and inviting cafes and bars.

By night you will be spoilt for choice with four fantastic theatres, each offering something different. The most famous is the Stephen Joseph Theatre, home of playwright Sir Alan Ayckbourn. Music lovers can visit Scarborough's Open Air Theatre or Spa Complex, home of the only remaining seaside orchestra, or Peasholm Park, which offers open air concerts and a variety of family activities.

The Spa offers a range of entertainment venues including the Grand Hall that seats 2000 and is home to the Scarborough Spa Orchestra. The Spa Theatre, a 600-seater Victorian theatre, which is home to the second-longest running Summer Season show in the country. The Spa is an ideal wedding and conference venue.
