Scarborough - Tv, Film & Litreature

Streets with union jacks and dressed up waar soldiers

From Anne Brontë to Alan Ayckbourn, some of the greatest writers the world has known have sought inspiration in Scarborough. Anne loved the place so much that, knowing she didn’t have long left to live, it was Scarborough she chose to visit for the sea air.Alan Ayckbourn – reckoned by many to be the world’s most performed living playwright –is the former artistic director of the town’s Stephen Joseph Theatre and now a regular guest director. He’s lived here for most of his adult life, and premieres all his work here to huge critical acclaim.

And the town’s natural beauty has been showcased repeatedly on both the small and large screen – TV shows filmed here include the recent Remember Me, with Michael Palin, and hit CBBC series All at Sea, while movie directors Michael Winner (A Chorus of Disapproval), Mark Herman (Little Voice) and Marc Munden (Miranda) all chose Scarborough as the backdrop to their movies.
