Nature, Parks & Gardens

We’re a wild lot here on the coast. When you live by the sea, nature is part of everyday life, even in the biggest towns. The Yorkshire coast is home to some of the best bird-watching in the world, including the UK’s largest and most accessible mainland nesting colony of gannets at Bempton Cliffs. The 400ft chalk cliffs are also home to the unmistakable puffin, giving you the best chance on mainland England to spot one of these sought-after seabirds.

You can whale watch from Whitby or Filey, spot autumn migrants at Spurn Point, and see seals, porpoises and even the occasional shark up and down the coast.

All of these places and many more form the Yorkshire Nature Triangle – an area of East Yorkshire renowned for a rich array of spectacular wildlife.

We also take great pride in our many parks and gardens; we may be wild, but we’re also green-fingered!
