Dad's Army Trail

Details

Why not follow the film trail of the 2016 Dad's Army Movie, have a great day out visiting the locations and discovering other things to do en route in the area.

BRIDLINGTONOLD TOWN
Areas of Westgate, High Street and St. Johns Avenue were transformed for filming into Walmington-on-Sea. Street furniture that would look out of place in the 1940s was removed and the roads had a temporary surface laid to remove any sign of modern day road
markings. Businesses and homes became film sets and everyone worked together to keep life as normal as possible during filming.

BEMPTON
The stunning white cliffs of Bempton doubled as the white cliffs of Dover. Private Jones nearly met his end when he fell over the cliff edge, clinging on for his life before being rescued by the troops.

DANES DYKE
The opening scenes of Mainwaring and his troops bravely facing an escaped bull were set here.

BEVERLEY
Beverley’s East Riding Theatre became the home of Dad’s Army. It doubled as the drill hall and Cpt Mainwaring’s office. The location manager looked at various halls across Yorkshire before finding the East Riding Theatre.

SEWERBY
Interior rooms within Sewerby Hall and Gardens were used to create the luxury Royal Oak dining rooms which saw the secret liaison between spy Rose Winters and Sgt Wilson

FLAMBOROUGH
The action packed scenes involving the German submarine, gun fire and explosions happened at Flamborough’s North Landing. The boathouse doubled as Private Walker’s secret den for his black market trade and a cave down on the beach as Rose’s secret
communication hub.
