2018 Bilsdale Show report -->
The 108th Bilsdale Agricultural Society Show took place on Saturday 25th August.

There was truly something for everyone in the record crowd, from the competitive classes of ponies, sheep, fur and feather and busy show of hounds, terriers and companion dogs. In the general tent there was a good display of talent, from vegetables, fruit and flowers to handicrafts, baking, preserves, eggs, photography and a huge art display. Our junior artists had also been busy with lots of entries in the childrens classes. Our new agricultural vintage hand tool class was especially well supported.

New for 2018 the craft demonstration tent was very popular, with local craft people demonstrating, woodturning, felt animal making, pottery and print / lampshade making, alongside our usual Commondale Wool Workshop display. Outside the usual trade stands were joined by Millbry Hill, who generously sponsored this years pony and dog classes.

Entertainment on the showfield included something for everyone, Elaine Hill entertained the crowd with her sheepdog and duck display, the trails bikes wowed the crowd with their daring skills, the parade of vintage cars, motorcycles and of course tractors was a sight to behold, whilst local farmers David and Catherine Sanderson demonstarted the shearing of sheep. The pony ring hosted the Bilsdale Hunt hounds and the presidents Mr and Mrs Robin Wood judged the pony fancy dress. Down in the dog ring showing classes were followed by the ever popular terrier racing whilst across the dale dogs of a different breed could be seen competing in the hound trials. The ringside entertainment ended with the quoits competition.

A record number of Vice-presidents sat down to an exellent luncheon provided by Roseberry Catering, during this, the Show Chairman gave the gift of a Rose Bush to Mrs Carol McGee our newest Honory Life Member and thanked her for all she had done for the show over the past 40 years. Adding to the ambience, our very own Bilsdale Silver Band gave a rousing performance of both traditional and contempory music whilst in the bar The Old Humpy Band entertained the crowd with folk songs.

For the energetic the fell race looping up to the top of the moor was a must whilst little legs preferred the childrens sports.
