Ryedale Rumble

Ryedale Rumble

The popular Ryedale Rumble is making its long awaited return to the Sportive calendar on July 29th 2018.

Now being run by Ryedale School PTA, to help raise funds for our small but outstanding school, the Rumble has a few changes of route but essentially is still the same exhilirating and arduous challenge that it always was.

We start and finish in the grounds of Ryedale School close to the beautiful market town of Helmsley. En route, you will experience the quiet country lanes of rural Ryedale, the Howardian Hills and the stunning scenery of the North York Moors.

We hope the three routes offer something for everyone.

The routes will be well signposted, with strategically placed marshals, well-stocked feed stations and, yes quite a few hills! All finishers will be awarded a medal and there will be food and drink on completion. For those who wish to camp on the Friday night this is freely available in the grounds of Ryedale School, along with toilet and washing facilities. A wide selection of local pubs and restaurants are nearby including an Indian restaurant within walking distance of the school.

The Ryedale Rumble allows riders of all abilities to explore areas of the North York Moors national park, while raising money for Ryedale’s leading secondary school.

What is a sportive?

Not a race, Sportives are a great way to get into organised cycling events, giving you the chance to complete a fully signed and supported ride in a relaxed environment. Think of it as the marathon of the cycling world (or a fun run if the word ‘marathon’ brings you out in a cold sweat).

Riding a sportive allows you to explore a new area on your bike, in the knowledge that you are fully supported by event staff and surrounded by other enthusiastic participants.

There will be 3 routes for all abilities. The Extreme route of 169.9 kilometres, a Challenge route of 120.5 kilometres, and an Inspire route of 79.3 kilometres. All routes encounter the inevitable hills of the North York Moors.

The Extreme and Challenge routes are aimed at experienced cyclists who want a serious test of fitness, endurance and stamina. With elevation gains of over 2,893m the extreme route takes in the now traditional monument climbs of Boltby Bank, Blakey Bank and Rosedale Chimney Bank. Challenge riders will take on the thrills and pain of an elevation gain of 1,744 metres while enjoying the beautiful moorland countryside. The Inspire route is for cyclists young or old, beginners or the experienced, who want to extend their cycling ambitions with a 995 metre elevation gain to encounter.
