Village

Details

As its name implies, this popular village lies in hollow or hole. On either side are the limestone headlands of the Tabular Hills. To the north, the land rises steadily to the heather clad moorland of Spaunton Moor. A clear moorland stream, Hutton Beck, splashes and winds its way through the pillowy mounds that form the village green, traditionally cropped by the local sheep. The award-winning Ryedale Folk Museum is in the centre of the village.
