Details

With high profile figures in the world of poetry and children's literature, there will be a full line up of events, workshops and lectures, as well as children's crafts and a Poetry Promenade. Speakers will include: Jacob Polley is the author of four acclaimed poetry collections, The Brink, Little Gods, The Havocs and Jackself as well as a Somerset Maugham Award-winning novel, Talk of the Town. In 2016 he won the TS Eliot prize for poetry. Horatio Clare: is a multi award-winning author and journalist. He has written two memoirs, Running for the Hills and Truant: Notes from the Slippery Slope, a novella, The Prince's Pen, and two works of travel and nature writing: A Single Swallow and Down to the Sea in Ships. He has recently published two children's books: Aubrey & the Terrible Yoot and Aubrey and the Terrible Ladybirds Anneliese Emmans Dean is the author of 'Buzzing!' a book which explores the world of minibeasts through poetry. Lizzy Stewart is the author of 'There's a Tiger in the Garden' which was recently shortlisted for the Waterstones Prize for illustrated Children's Books. Dr Amy-Jane Beer will be running a half-day nature writing workshop 9am- 1pm . tickets for the workshop cost £25.00 from www.ryedalebookfestival.com (and include admission to the walled garden ). Spaces are limited. Wardle & Jones will also be running a book stall in the Garden Cafe.

Dogs may be taken for a walk in the park, but we regret cannot be allowed in the garden or on the woodland walk. The resturant and plant sales area may be enjoyed without paying for entry to the garden. There is disabled access to the garden and all visitor facilities.

Scampston is situated on the north side of the A64 Leeds/Scarborough road, approximately 4 miles from Malton and just to the east of the village of Rillington.
By Car
From Leeds/York/Malton Follow the A64 toward Scarborough, bypassing Malton. Half a mile after the traffic lights in Rillington take the left turn signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the walled garden.
From Scarborough Follow the A64 towards York passing Heslerton and the turning to Yedingham and Snainton. Half a mile after crossing Scampston Bridge (you get a glimpse of the house on your right signed Scampston Only and follow signs to the Walled Garden.
By Public Transport
Yorkshire Coastliner (01653 692556) Bus Service 843, 845 and X45 pass within 1 mile of the Garden.
