Osmotherley occupies an enviable position between the beautiful Cleveland Hills to the north and Hambleton Hills to the south.

Take your time to explore this historic village whose origins can be traced back to the early 19th century when housing was needed for growing numbers of people working in the nearby quarrying and textile industries.

There are lots of great places to walk and picnic in the nearby North York Moors National Park. It’s an easy half hour stroll to the 16th century Lady Chapel which also offers spectacular views down into the Vale of York. The Old Drovers Road in Sheep Wash is also a fantastic spot for lunch and offers fantastic views of the moorland.

The North York Moors have strong religious connections and the nearby Mount Grace Priory is well worthy of a visit. It is the best preserved of only nine Carthusian Priories founded in this country! Take a look inside to see what a monk’s cell would have looked like and visit an exhibition which tells you more about the site’s fascinating history.
