Village, free entry

This long roadside village was given to the Nuns of Rosedale in the 13th century for Eustace de Stuteville. Behind the New Tavern, Nun's Garth still shows old foundations from the Nunnery. It is well worth a look at the fine church of St. Andrew's which dates from the Saxon era. Some of its features include an 11th century tower, a marvellous arched south doorway with 15th century oak door, Saxon carvings, a Norman vesica window and examples of 1,000 year old wheel-head crosses. Middleton Hall is early-Georgian.
