Details
Dairy House sleeps 6. It has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and sitting room with a dramatic gallery. It is set in the typical, yet unspoilt moorland village of Newton, a cluster of stone farms and cottages in the splendour of the North.Yorks Moors National Park. The cottage has a unique character, combining original rustic features, modern technology and comfort. With its massive oak beams and thick walls it is warm and cosy in winter yet cool in summer.
It is thought to be the oldest of the Manor Farm buildings. Its timbers may have come from oaks in Newtondale or from ships broken up in Whitby.
Downstairs there is ramped access to the entrance hall. The spacious sitting room has a wood burning stove, a unique 17th century stone carved fireplace, flat screen 32” Smart TV and DVD, Dab Radio and CD with Ipod and wireless connection, comfortable sofa, rocking chair and suite. The modern, fully equipped kitchen/dining room has fridge/ freezer, ceramic electric hob, double oven, dishwasher and microwave. Laundry room with washing machine, iron, tumble drier and full drying facilities. Telephone for incoming & local calls and free Wi-Fi. Bathroom with shower. Double bedroom and single bedroom.
Upstairs almost feels like a self-contained flat with a spacious family bedroom with twin beds (if requested that can convert to a king size) and single bed, bathroom with bath and mixer shower and the impressive gallery landing.
Cot and high chair are available, but please bring your own cot linen and bedding and harness for the high chair.
Outside is an open plan garden: largely down to grass and a patio with garden furniture. Barbecue available.
Dairy House is walker and cycle friendly. There is space for boots and bikes in the laundry room.
A ten minute drive from the thriving market town of Pickering, Newton is a small, quiet working village. It forms a pretty cluster of stone farms and cottages round the village green and duck-pond. Only five minutes on foot from the cottage, The White Swan is a family run 18th century Inn serving bar food and real ale, with log fires. There is superb walking, riding, cycling and touring over moor and forest, wildflower pastures and woodland.
The church and chapel welcome visitors and tennis, basketball, football, children’s playground, barbecue and grassy open space are available on the village playing field.
Children welcome from any age.
