Overlooking the southern part of Scarborough is Oliver's Mount, a large wooded hill rising to 500 feet above sea level and from which you can obtain a breathtaking view of Scarborough. It has an impressive War Memorial, the column rising to 75½ feet, and there is also an attractive picnic area.

The former name of the hill was Weaponness and its present name may be derived from the mistaken belief that Oliver Cromwell placed batteries on it during the siege of the Castle.

In 1840, Anne Bronte wrote of visiting Oliver's Mount in her poem "The Bluebell" - an extract is reproduced here:
"That day along a sunny road
All carelessly I strayed,
Between two banks where smiling flowers
Their varied hues displayed.
Before me rose a lofty hill,
Behind me lay the sea, . . ."

The Mount is also home to various sporting activities.
Newly formed motorcycle racing club, Two Four Three Road Racing Association, is proud to announce that motorcycle racing will return to Oliver’s Mount circuit in Scarborough this year, with the full backing of Scarborough Borough Council.

Two confirmed meetings around the challenging and undulating 2.43 mile public road race track; the Barry Sheen Classic on 27 and 28 July and the Gold Cup from 27 to 29 September have been agreed by the Auto Cycle Union (ACU).

The exciting news that motorcycle racing is all set to return to the sport’s iconic and only English road racing circuit is expected to be warmly welcomed by UK and international motorcycle racing fans and also tourism businesses on the Yorkshire Coast, for whom racing events at Oliver’s Mount are big business.

Scarborough Borough Council is to grant a lease to GrantRoberts Ltd to operate at Oliver’s Mount as Two Four Three Road Racing Association. The company brings a wealth of experience in the sport to Scarborough, including former Grand Prix and Isle Of Man TT racer and supplier of Pirelli tyres to the British Superbike grid, Eddie Roberts, and seven times Isle of Man TT winner and multiple winner at Oliver’s Mount, Mick Grant.

Speaking about bringing racing back to Oliver’s Mount, Eddie Roberts said:

“Behind the scenes there have been months and months of planning to get us to this stage and there are a huge number of people I need to thank, including Shaun Dalton and the One Nine Four Six Marshals Association. We are working side-by-side with the ACU and work is already underway to improve the safety of the track for both for riders and spectators. We know it’s a huge task to undertake, but we are 100% confident racing will take place at Oliver’s Mount this year.”
