“Mixed - sorry!”

I stayed two nights at the Cavendish Hotel.
Cleanliness - I cannot fault the cleanliness of the Cavendish Hotel. Perfect!
Staff Service - On the second day I returned to the hotel at around 3pm as the conference had finished and asked if many people stay for supper. I was told yes but that it was too late for me to order (?) as apparently you have to order at breakfast. No one had asked me at breakfast. I was then told that I would have received an email explaining this but I had not as a colleague had booked the accommodation. A local restaurant was recommended but as a female staying alone, some flexibility here would have been appreciated even if not the full menu.
Value for money - As a B & B it was good.
Location - perfect for the event which was at the spa.
Services and facilities - marked low due to returning to my hotel at 3pm to do some work and had to get under my duvet as it was so cold. The heating did not come on until around 5pm. Given it was March this perhaps could have been considered. Also there was no wi-fi connectivity in my room so I was unable to work. There was wi-fi in public areas, but I was reluctant to come out from under my duvet!
I'm sorry that this is a mixed report. So incredibly clean and the breakfast was fantastic.
As a marketing manager I would suggest they rename from the Cavendish Hotel to the Cavendish B & B or Guest House because Hotel implied a certain expectation which wasn't met....

Our property is named The Cavendish, it is 4* visit England accredited guest accommodation, not a hotel; neither do we or any of the websites we use market it as one. A 4* hotel would offer a totally different range of facilities and services, the most obvious difference would be the price. May we suggest that if you are asking people to book accommodation on your behalf that you make sure that they understand exactly what particular services you are looking for and then book appropriately.

As a small owner run establishment, we buy the fresh ingredients for our meals as they are ordered; the meals are also freshly prepared by Robert. We send with your booking confirmation an e-mail stating that meals need to pre-order after breakfast on the day of service. This information is also in your guest pack. We do not ask every customer at breakfast whether they would like an evening meal as we do not wish to appear pushy and make guests feel uncomfortable if they do not wish to dine with us. We cannot really be held responsible if your colleague does not pass the relevant information on to you or if you do not read the information in your guest pack.

We are both acutely aware that it can be a bit daunting if you are a lone female guest; this is why we both spent time ensuring that you were made to feel welcome and in fact actually allowed you to eat take away fish and chips in our dining room on your night of arrival. We also got up early to serve your breakfast at 7.30 am as you needed to be at The Spa early.

With regards to the heating, the heating was put on 1.30p.m.; it was not until another guest came to find us at 4.30p.m. that we were made aware that it was not on and after an investigation; we found that one of the guests had decided to turn the main thermostat down in the hallway and this was why none of the radiators were on, this was then resolved. If you had come to see us beforehand, we would have discovered the problem earlier. We are sorry that the Wi-Fi connection did not connect, unfortunately we have had a few problems with the connectivity in some of the rooms but as you pointed out it does work in the guest lounge.
