9 miles/14 kilometres south-west of Scarborough.

Snainton lies on the northern side of the Vale of Pickering against the foothills of the Tabular Hills. The village lies at a junction of the roads leading from Pickering (A 170) and Malton (B 1258). The main road (A 170) then squeezes through the centre of the village and continues to the coast at Scarborough. Part of the village, largely unnoticed, stretches south into the Vale.

The nearby Wydale Hall is now a centre for religious retreat and owned by the Diocese of York.
