Details

The Festival will begin with an exhibition preview and grand opening by the Mayor of Scarborough on Sunday 19th May at 6 pm. There will be a wide variety of works of art in all forms (paintings, textiles, sculptures, glass etc.) by local amateur artists, many of whom have never exhibited before. All items will be for sale at very reasonable prices. Entry to the exhibition is free.

In addition, there will be entertainment in the church every evening, entry to which will be free.

Monday 20th May at 7.30 pm: The Staxton Singers will be holding an open rehearsal, featuring music from Vivaldi to the Beach Boys. The choir will be directed by Andrew Jenkins, with accompanist Rebecca Wood.

Tuesday 21st May at 7 pm is film night in the church.

Wednesday 22nd May at 7 pm. Students from Scalby School Drama Department will present a Summer Concert, performing music from composers past and present.

Thursday 23rd May at 6.45 pm - A Unique Literary Evening featuring the following:
Antony Dunn, prizewinning author of four poetry collections.
Gary Mortimer, local crime writer.
Dorinda Cass, local author of short stories and novels.
Bridget Foreman, playwright and theatre director of Riding Lights, National Youth and Pilot theatres.
There will also be readings in memory of local poet, Cathy Arnott.
The evening will start with time to enjoy a selection of cheeses, (including vegan), biscuits, wine and non-alcoholic drinks. There will be an opportunity to put questions to our guest speakers.

Friday 24th may at 7.30 pm. Scarborough Community Choir will be singing music mainly from the 1960s, but also including pieces from the renaissance times and big band era and also Noel Coward. Soloists will be Lesley Machen and John Barrett.

Saturday 25th May at 7.30 pm. 'The Singing Vicar', the Rev Mike Leigh, Vicar of St Mark's, will be performing 'Music for a May Evening'. He will be accompanied by Jordan Lapping (guitar), Chloe Leigh (flute), Paul de Villanueva (violin), Chris Wright (piano) and Victoria Wright (soprano).

Sunday 26th May at 6.30 pm. There will be a Thanksgiving Praise Service in church, when we give thanks and praise to the Lord for the success of our Arts Festival and for the talents and gifts that he has given to us all.

The Festival will close at 5 pm on Monday 27th May.

Entry is free to all events, but donations in aid of St Mark's Church Annex Fund will be warmly welcomed.
