Staithes Art & Heritage Festival

Staithes Art & Heritage Festival

Businesses across the Yorkshire Coast are getting ready to reopen and welcome you back. Please check the individual website for reopening dates, opening times and booking details.

We recommend you follow current public health advice and maintain social distancing.

This is in line with current government advice to avoid unnecessary travel and large gatherings to limit the spread of the Corona Virus. While we are aware that by September the contagion may have peaked and the restrictions may be relaxed, this is far from certain. Even if it were the case, we feel the economic impact of the pandemic will continue for some considerable time to come and this in turn will adversely affect our Festival.

Staithes Festival has established itself as one of the friendliest festival on the coast – a must-go-to event in the regional arts calendar.

During the weekend some 100+ cottages in the village become temporary art galleries in a unique selling exhibition. Staithes heritage is also celebrated in fossils, fishing, historic photographs and film shows.

The Staithes Festival of Arts and Heritage features a selling exhibition of artwork from around 100 artists which will take place over the weekend of 12 and 13 September 2020 in some 60 temporary galleries in cottages, houses and public spaces throughout the village.

The open evening takes place on Friday 11th September 1900-2030 and continues in to Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 17.30. Everyone is welcome.

We also run walks, talks, workshops, concerts and heritage events throughout the weekend.

Entry to the Festival is free of charge. Most of the events are free unless otherwise stated.

The printed programme and map of all the galleries and the weekends' events will be available from 27 August.

Artists Registration opens on 1st January 2020 and closes 30th April 2020.
There will be a late registration fee of £50 for anyone applying after 30th April.

Artists Registration fee for 2020 is £250. Artists will not be required to pay any commission on sales.

Self-Assessed Accessibility Details

We regret that Staithes is not easily accessible for wheelchair users and anyone with mobility problems. The road down into the old village is very steep as is the access to the Cowbar side. A free taxi service will be available from the public car park to take visitors up and down the hill. The main street is cobbled and there are numerous narrow passageways and steps. The harbour side is largely flat and suitable for wheelchairs as is the bridge and Cowbar side of the village by the lifeboat station. The pop-up galleries vary in accessibility but most of them are old cottages with narrow doorways and steps with limited wheelchair access.
