Situated at the edge of the hamlet of Ainthorpe near Danby with views of open countryside. The Fox and Hounds Inn is a great place to stay and eat. The location is ideal for exploring the moors and coast. The North York Moors Visitor centre is nearby and offers full information and ideas on where to visit. Danby Castle is a short walk from the Inn as are footpaths straight on to the open moors, offering great views from the top of Fryup.

The Inn dates back to the 16th century and has much charm and character. All rooms are en-suite and have good facilities. Delicious freshly prepared meals are served every lunchtime and evening. A quality selection of wines and Cask ales are available all year round.

    Turn off the A171 Whitby to Guisborough road following signs for Danby. Then follow local signs to Ainthorpe. The Fox and Hounds Inn is signposted off Ainthorpe Lane. Postcode for satelite navigation is YO21 2LD. Please note avoid Strait Lane as it is very narrow, keep to Ainthorpe Lane, then Brook Lane.

    • Access Statement for the Fox and Hounds Inn, 45 Brook Lane, Ainthorpe, nr Danby, Whitby YO21 2LD Introduction The Fox and Hounds is set amidst the beautiful North York Moors National Park and is located in the hamlet of Ainthorpe, which is situated between the villages of Castleton and Danby. Once a former 16th Century Coaching Inn, The Fox and Hounds is now a high quality residential country Inn and Restaurant. The surrounding countryside is an area of outstanding natural beauty. The historic seaside town of Whitby famous for its Abbey and Dracula connections is 16 miles away and market town of Guisborough is 10 miles away. The nearby coast consisting of picturesque beaches such as Runswick Bay is a 10 minute drive. The neighbouring village of Danby can be walked to in around 10 minutes. The Moors National Park Centre is located in Danby. The property consists of 7 en suite rooms that overlook the surrounding moorland and countryside. There is a general main bar area, pool room and dining area and then a beer garden to the side of the building. Whilst we aim to meet the needs of all of our guests there are some features of the property which might make access difficult for people with limited mobility. We look forward to welcoming you. Pre-Arrival •The nearest Rail Station is Danby - 1 mile •Local minibus taxi – 07792838771 •There is a Moors Bus Service which runs twice a day on Sundays from the beginning of July to the end of September •The surrounding streets are uneven and there are some steep inclines •Between Ainthorpe and Danby some parts of the main road do not have pavement on both sides •Our information is available in large print on request. Car Parking and Arrival •There is a large off-road car parking area to the front of the property •The parking area is lit by flood lighting •The walk across the car park to the main entrance is a gentle downhill slope on a tarmac surface. There is a sloping concrete ramp of 2 metres which runs directly up to the doorway. •The main door entrance width is 760mm (30 inches). There is a door threshold of 50mm (2inches). •This is Followed by a double doorway which is 850mm (33.5inches) •There is an alternative entrance to the side of the property suitable for wheelchair access with a width of 790mm (31 inches) •The accommodation is accessed through a door at the bottom of the stairs. Width 760mm (30 inches). •The staircase is 840mm (33inches) in width with a secure handrail running up the left hand side. There are three stairs to the quarter staircase and then a right turn to the main body of the staircase which measures 940mm (37 inches) in width consisting of 10 steps. There is a further right turn at the three quarter staircase and four steps to reach the landing area. Welcome Area/Check-in •The welcome area is located at the main bar where there is a member of staff on duty. The area is level and without any door thresholds. There is ample seating available. •Assistance with luggage is available on arrival and departure. •A magnifying glass, reading glasses and pens and paper is available. •Guests are required to fill in a short guest registration form. •All guests are shown up to their designated rooms and shown round the suite. Additional information is given about meal times and check out but this information can all be found on the back of the bedroom doors. •The side door is pointed out to guests as it may be necessary for them to use this access if they are coming into the property late at night or need to leave in the early morning. •There is clear information in the rooms regarding the fire evacuation procedure and health and safety policies and all fire exits are clearly marked. BEDROOMS •All bedrooms are located off the landing and corridor which leads across from the landing •The corridor and bedrooms are carpeted throughout. Bedroom carpets are made up of a consistency of 80% wool, 20% nylon fabric. •There is a good colour contrast between floors and walls. •There are 100% polyester fleece blankets in the wardrobes of all bedrooms if needed. •Every bed has a tweed throw over the bed with matching cushions which guests can move at their own discretion. •Pillows and duvets are non-allergenic hollow-fibre-fill. •All of the towels are made of 100% cotton. •Each room contains an LCD Free-sat channel TV with built in DVD player and a remote. Subtitles are available on each TV. •Every room contains a desk which will have a tray on it with tea and coffee making facilities (kettle, saucers, tea/coffee, teapot, biscuits). •Fire exit located on same level as the bedrooms with a push pad to open. This leads out to some wooden steps with a railing at the back of the building. Garden •The garden is on a sloping site, however the top half levels off. It can be accessed from the Guest side entrance of the building or by going around the side of the car park. •There are 8 stone steps up to the garden all of which are approximately 200mm (8 inches) in height. At the top of the steps there is a small gate. •There are 10 wooden picnic benches scattered around the garden area. •Furthermore there is a grass strip which runs between the side of the car park and the road. This area contains 5 picnic benches and there is also a further one directly outside the front main entrance. Additional Information •Several members of staff are first Aid trained. •Ironing board and iron are available on request •Put up beds and a cot are all available on request to be put in the bedrooms. •Dogs are welcome throughout the property and in the guest bedrooms. The only area dogs are not allowed is in the restaurant. •Free WiFi is available throughout the property. •There are several electrical sockets located throughout the bar and restaurant/dining areas. •There is a sauna room located on the same level as the bedrooms. It can be booked at a cost of £7.50 per session. •Large selection of leaflets displaying local tourist attractions is located at the top of the stairs on the landing •Early breakfast or breakfast trays can be requested.
