It took almost three years of searching and lots of hard work renovating our property before we could share Eighteen97 with you. Built as a holiday home from the remains of the old Goathland church for a German classical pianist, Christian Gotlieb Padel, his initials remain inscribed above the door along with the date of construction, 1897. A nod to the initial Arts and Crafts style remains with a stunning centrepiece fireplace and parquet floor in the sitting room. Access Statement Introduction Eighteen97 is located on a single track road within the village of Goathland. The house was built in 1897 and whilst we aim to meet the needs of all our guests there are some period features that may make access difficult for people with limited mobility. Our guest rooms are located on the first floor accessed only via one flight of stairs. Guest rooms are at first floor level and have en-suite shower or ensuite bathrooms. The ceilings are sloping in some rooms due to the eaves. As all our guest rooms are at first floor level they are not suitable for wheelchair users. Access to the centre of the village is via the roadway, there are footpaths at some points but these are uneven stepping stones, at other times you may need to walk on the road or across grass. This is common place throughout the village. The nearest shops, pubs and cafés are within easy, but not level, walking distance in the direction of The Common. Services at the shops are limited. The nearest bus stop is opposite the shops in the centre of the village which is around 5 minutes walk. From here the Coastliner bus service runs to Whitby and York and the surrounding area, we also have copies of the local timetables for guest use. The nearest railway station is around10 -15 minutes walk from Eighteen97. There are limited services via the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from this station. A connection may be made to Grosmount which has a mainline service along the Esk Valley to Middlesborough and the North Yorkshire Moors Railway also runs from here. There are several local taxi companies and taxis can usually be ordered with advance notice. We also hold taxi details on file. Eighteen97 is unable to welcome pets of any kind. Assistance dogs are welcome by prior arrangement. A family pet may be on site. Menus and guest information can be provided in large print if required. Earlier arrival may, however, be possible by arrangement. On the day of departure rooms must be vacated by 10.30am. There is off road parking for 3 cars on a gravel drive to the side of the main house. We can also accommodate motorbikes and bicycles in this area. We can offer assistance with luggage of a reasonable size and weight if required. Main Entrance From the gravel drive there is one step and an uneven stone flagged path to the front door. From the road there is a gravel path and three steps to the front door. The front door is usually closed therefore please ring the bell on your arrival.
