Danby Dale, Blakey and Westerdale Walk

Make no mistake – you have to be up for a challenge to tackle our most strenuous moorland walk, a 16½-mile circuit of the western dales and high moors that takes in the source of the River Esk, starting and finishing in Castleton.

Walk Route: The valley sections of the walk follow field paths and go through farms, with many gates and several stiles en route.

  • Access: Easy to access.
  • Duration: 8 hours.

Glen Gardens, Filey

Glen Gardens were built around the 1830’s and were part of the private estate of Ravine Hall. Although the hall no longer exists, a café stands in its place making it nice place to visit in the summer.

Grosmont  to Whitby Walk

Join the River Esk on the final part of its journey from the high moors to the sea on this 8-mile linear walk that starts in Grosmont and finishes in style on the pier in Whitby (fish and chips optional!).

Walk Route: The route is mostly on fairly level bridleways, with several gates and some stiles along the way.

Lyke Wake Walk

THE LYKE WAKE WALK is a complete crossing of the North Yorkshire moors along their main east-west watershed between the Stone at grid reference 470994 and the Trig point at 971012, a distance of approximately 40 miles.

Walk Route: The most famous – some would say notorious – challenge walk across the North York Moors is the Lyke Wake Walk, a 40-mile route from west (Osmotherley) to east (Ravenscar).

Thornton le Dale and Ellerburn Walk

Thornton le Dale is regarded by many people as the prettiest village in the National Park.

Walk Route: The paths on this level walk are waymarked, but run through riverside fields and may be muddy in places after rain. There are occasional stiles and gates en route.
