Details

The Black Swan at Oldstead is, according to TripAdvisor, the Travellers Choice Best Fine Dining Restaurant in the World 2017! Tommy Banks' talent as a chef is in itself truly remarkable. He was Britain's youngest Michelin-starred chef in 2013 and won Great British Menu in 2016 and 2017. For us at The Black Swan, it's so much more than just Michelin Star food. The focus is all about where we are and who we are – a reflection of “Oldstead”- traditional Yorkshire with a swirling mix of creativity and eccentricity.

The cooking is simple, but bold in it's simplicity. The food is all about ingredients - a carrot is valued just as highly as a fillet of beef. Each ingredient is treated individually and all with the same affection. There is an “Oldstead” style which goes well beyond the kitchen, an obvious example of which is the new home-made drinks list which has fresh juices, cordials, liqueurs and cocktails made using home-grown and foraged ingredients.

There's a 2 acre kitchen garden adjoining The Black Swan. The intention is to grow really special produce and be largely self-sufficient by focusing the menu around home-produced vegetables, salad, herbs, mushrooms and fruit.

The Black Swan is situated in a stunning rural location in the South West corner of The North York Moors National Park. The area draws walkers and those wanting to enjoy the idyllic scenery. To cater for this, Tom Banks has complied a series of walking guides which feature unique nuggets of local knowledge and history gleaned from his father which are available in the bar. Within a few miles there are facilities for golf, fishing, pony trekking, 4x4 off-road driving, quad bike safari and clay pigeon shooting. Ideal for exploring the Moors, Dales and Coast and visiting Helmsley, Whitby and York. Children welcome from age 10.
