Arts & Heritage

Bridlington’s most famous resident for many years was British art’s golden boy David Hockney. Many of his best-loved paintings (including the famous Bigger Trees near Warter) were painting in the Wolds countryside which surrounds the town.

With an art connection like that, it’s no surprise that Bridlington boasts many lovely independent galleries and arts venues, especially in the picturesque Old Town area. There are two excellent museums: the Bayle, housed in the former entrance to the town’s Augustinian Priory, and now dedicated to the history of the town, and the Harbour Heritage Museum, which catalogues the resort’s maritime history.

The beautiful Augustinian priory is a must-visit for history buffs. And let’s not forget that Bridlington is less than 25 miles away from Hull, making it an ideal base for visitors to the fantastic City of Culture 2017.
