Please think twice before travelling to our borough.
If you do choose to visit at this time, #stayalert and please remember:

• There are still limited facilities available - we cannot guarantee which car parks and toilets will be open
• Many local businesses remain closed in line with government guidelines
• Many of our beaches remain without lifeguard cover
• To avoid busy places, including narrow paths and streets
• To respect social distancing at all times, staying at least two metres apart from anyone not in your household
• To respect our communities and the environment. Dropping litter is unacceptable. Please use a bin or take it home with you.

Thank you.

Yorkshire lays claim to one of the most beautiful and best-loved coastlines in the country, each one unique with its own charisma and allure. Our smaller towns and villages are some of the prettiest you’ll find anywhere in the world.

At its northern end, the coast is home to picturesque villages clinging precipitously to the cliffs – Staithes, Runswick BayRobin Hood’s Bay and Ravenscar among them – and all in the care of the North York Moors National Park.

Travel further south, and the scenery offers the dramatic chalk cliffs of Flamborough to the serine ocean views at Bempton with their seabird colonies, then gradually becomes gentler as you approach Spurn Head, passing through Barmston, Ulrome, Skipsea and a dozen or so other tiny coastal communities.

You can watch local fisherman at work; go fossil hunting on the Jurassic Coast; take a smugglers tour around Robin Hood's Bay; admire work of artists in Staithes; try rock pooling in Runswick; relax at a beach shack or enjoy a cup of tea in Sandsend.

Don’t be fooled by their wonderful serenity as these thriving coastal communities are full of things to do!
