About

Hardwick House Country Cottages are located seven miles from Scarborough and eight miles from Whitby in a the small village of Harwood Dale, with five holiday cottages all on the same site. The cottages sleep from two to five persons, with a cottage specifically adapted for those with limited accessibility. In the idyllic setting of Harwood Dale, one of the loveliest valleys of the North York Moors, and surrounded by rolling hills, meandering rivers and ancient woodland, a group of handsome 17th century barns have been converted to create five lovely cottages, all individually designed. Retaining original beams and offering spacious accommodation they sit round a pretty courtyard in the owner's 100 acre grounds which visitors are free to roam. The area features a lake and a small farming area where you can meet Porker the pet pig. There is also a fenced children's play area.

With the heritage coast of both Whitby and Scarborough just a few miles away, the picturesque village of Robin Hood's Bay only six miles away and the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway only 30 minutes drive away, the cottages offer a wonderful holiday base in a fascinating part of Yorkshire. Whitby boasts lovely sandy beaches great restaurants and some lovely little shops amidst its quaint cobbled streets, as well as fishing and boat trips from the harbour. Scarborough offers traditional seaside entertainment with a great theatre and a Sea Life Centre. There are plenty of lovely walking opportunities. 'Heartbeat' country is located nearby and, for the more energetic, the Cleveland Way is not that far away and affords magnificent views for keen walkers. Cyclists will enjoy the old Whitby to Scarborough railway line and the closely located Dalby Forest is fun for all the family with play parks, cycle and walk tracks and a Go Ape adventure for the bigger kids. Good restaurants and pubs are within five miles as are the local shops. A short drive away and you are at the historic city of York, great for a spot of shopping and seeing the sights.

Other places located nearby of interest include Beverley, Pickering, Filey, Thornton-le-Dale and Sandsend. We have five cottages - Dalby, Bickley, Harwood, Langdale and Wykeham. All our cottages sit around a pretty courtyard and have their own patio with table and chairs. There is access to a shared garden with a kids play area, also the cottages have a shared hot tub. The cottage site is on a farm and there are plenty of friendly animals about including Porker (pet pig). Dalby and Bickley are two spacious, beamed cottages complete with open plan kitchens and living rooms. Both cottages sleep four persons and have one double bedroom and one twin bedroom. Bickley has a four poster bed in the Master bedroom, whereas Dalby has a comfortable double bed. There is also a fully equipped bathroom in both cottages. Harwood Cottage is a two person cottage. The cottage has a spacious open plan sitting/dining room with a gas coal-effect fire and well equipped kitchen area. The double bedroom has a four poster bed and is next to the bathroom. The cottage sleeps two, plus a travel cot for a small child/infant.

Wykeham Cottage and Langdale cottages both sleep up to five persons - they have a double bedroom each and a twin bedroom each where an extra bed can be placed. Both cottages have a large open plan sitting room/kitchen and dining area. Langdale Cottage is adapted for those with limited mobility and has widened doorways for wheelchair access and has a wet room equipped with a shower wheelchair and grab rails. Wykeham has a standard bathroom like the other cottages with a bath and a shower. Dogs are allowed in both of these cottages for £25 per week. The owners live on the same site as the cottages so any problems can be easily solved. Free welcome gift in all cottages. Cottages can be decorated on request for special occasions - birthdays, anniversaries etc. Although the cottages are self-catering we can arrange for shopping to be bought and delivered ready for your arrival. Discounts available for larger parties who require more than one cottage. Prices for the cottages vary throughout the year depending on seasons - short breaks are available on either a three-four night basis - additional nights available at an added cost and during quieter times two night breaks will be considered.
