Character and history of our hotel.
The Castle By The Sea is a wonderfully characteristic property overlooking both the South and North Bays in Scarborough. The property offers many historic and interesting features, including the oak entrance door and dado rail, originally from the vestry at St. Anne's R.C. Cathedral in Leeds.
John Atkinson Grimshaw, who is without question, the most important artist to have lived and painted in Scarborough, resided here between 1876 and 1879, and the dining room has a superb carved mantle, and wonderful hand painted tiles in its surround, which were designed by Grimshaw himself.
Anne Bronte's grave can be found within a 2 minute walk, situated in the graveyard at St. Mary's Church. Scarborough Castle is also just at the rear of the property, and both the North/South Bays and Harbour are within easy access. Other local attractions include the North Bay Miniature Railway, Sealife Centre, Peasholm Park Boating Lake, Scarborough Indoor Bowls Centre,
We have been running the property since June 2007 and welcome you to view comments from our previous satisfied guests. Please see Trip Advisor for reviews.
