The Fairfax Arms

About

You can be sure of a warm welcome from landlord Andrew Slingsby and his partner Emily Thompson. Having both grown up in the local area, Andy & Emily took on the role of managing the inn in March 2009, shortly after graduating from university. The couple are very passionate about providing excellent service and upholding high standards, and they have worked very hard to build up The Fairfax Arms into the success that it is today. Never afraid to try new ideas, Andy and Emily run the inn with dynamic enthusiasm, which has enabled The Fairfax to prosper and flourish whilst still retaining its traditional character and charm. The couple head up a young, friendly team who always go the extra mile to ensure that customers enjoy their visit.

In June 2011, owners Robert & Edward Fawcett decided that they too wanted to play a more active role in the management of The Fairfax Arms. Since the brothers took on their positions the inn has seen re-investment to refurbish and refresh the interior and exterior, as well as upgrades in the bedrooms including flat screen televisions and ipod docking stations throughout. There are many more gradual improvements planned to ensure that The Fairfax Arms continues to impress and uphold its growing reputation.

The Fairfax Arms is a traditional country pub situated in the beautiful village of Gilling East near Helmsley, North Yorkshire with very good quality, modern accommodation and a warm, friendly atmosphere. Relax by the real log fire, unwind in the spacious bar and watch the world go by in this picturesque North Yorkshire village. The inn has a range of accommodation and bedrooms, from classic doubles to deluxe and superior rooms including a luxurious suite - perfect for those seeking a relaxing country retreat. The inn is proud to hold the accolade of 4 stars as awarded by Visit Britain. The extra little touches such as homemade biscuits, freshly ground coffee and complimentary fresh fruit make your stay extra special.

We offer the perfect place to stay when exploring North Yorkshire and when visiting Helmsley, Ampleforth and York. Whether you are looking for a luxury weekend away from it all or a couple of nights of great food and drink in a charming location, you are sure to find what you're looking for here at The Fairfax Arms. We offer rooms on a bed & breakfast basis, and there are also regular dinner, bed & breakfast offers and discounted rates available throughout the year.

The pub itself attracts a range of visitors and locals alike, offering some quite lively evenings, especially at weekends. The streamside beer garden is a relaxing spot to spend a sunny afternoon, or you can venture inside to the bar area, which, with its traditional furnishings, impressive oak bar and wooden beams presents a relaxing and pleasurable place to have a drink or a meal. The traditional open log fires are perfect for warming up by on chillier days.

Dining at The Fairfax Arms restaurant is an experience not to be missed - whether it be for a special occasion or just a quick bite to eat. Our chefs use only the freshest, finest ingredients, which are locally sourced where possible. Our breakfast comes well recommended and our delicious lunches and highly acclaimed sumptuous evening meals have earned us an excellent reputation locally.
