About

Located in the town centre and built in 1863, the Grand Hotel Scarborough takes pride of place overlooking the town's picturesque harbour and South Bay. This stunning Victorian building is an ideal base to enjoy the beautiful sandy beaches, promenade walks and all that Scarborough has to offer.

Scarborough is one of the most popular seaside resorts in England and has many attractions to suit the whole family.  You can visit the historic Scarborough Castle, enjoy clean and safe beaches or walk along the promenade with its typical seaside amusements and attractions. Children will love the Miniature Railway and the Sea Life Centre located on the North Bay, while the famous Scarborough Spa and gardens provide a relaxing haven for all.

The Harbour Lights Restaurant, which is the hotel's main restaurant, provides stunning views of the harbour and offers a breakfast buffet and traditional English meals throughout the day, while the Premier restaurant has a more intimate atmosphere offering a premium menu.

Our Java Coffee Shop serves light lunches and afternoon tea, whilst the hotel's two bars offer a relaxed and chilled atmosphere.

LIVE entertainment is available every night in the hotel's stunning ballroom, with dazzling cabaret shows featuring professional dancers and entertainers dressed in stunning costumes.

History

One of the town’s landmark features and instantly recognisable on the skyline, the Britannia Grand Hotel, Scarborough, has dominated Scarborough’s South Bay since 1867.  The designer Cuthbert Brodrick designed the hotel around the theme of time, four towers for the four seasons, twelve floors for the months, 52 chimneys for the weeks of the year and originally 365 rooms for the days of the year.  The original splendour of the hotel can still be seen today.  The main staircase has maintained its original design having been constructed to allow the passage of ladies in crinolines.  Among the famous people who have stayed at the Grand were Winston Churchill, author James Herriott, the Beatles and Gracie Fields.
