About

Curious About Scarborough is a pair of self-guided walks with a treasure hunt theme – looping around the better-known sights, as well as some of the more unusual and quirky ones, which, combined, make Scarborough a fabulous place to explore!

First Walk: Castle to Vincent Pier (1.5 miles)
From the castle with its stunning location and panoramic views over the town of Scarborough and the dramatic Yorkshire coastline this walk plunges down past a beautiful church – resting place of Anne Brontë – to Scarborough’s Old Town. Visit a special Market Hall with quirky vaults, dodge the seagulls (if you can!), explore ancient backstreets, check out the funfair, and finish at a spectacular harbour bustling with pleasure boats and colourful fishermen.

Second Walk: Grand Hotel Circular (1 mile)
Start your walk at the Grand Hotel - aptly named, overseeing South Bay in an imperious way. From here explore a wooded area with a warren of paths before arriving at a quiet and elegant street in the shape of a crescent. Next plunge into the new town, with a host of compelling, unusual shops, before ending at the Grand – time for a promenade, or take a tram to the seafront, and go for a paddle.

Each booklet gives you everything you need - detailed directions, maps, clues (with answers if needed!), and fascinating stories about Scarborough’s history. We also provide ideas for other attractions and things to see and do along the way.

If you're naturally inquisitive (we would say curious...), and like having fun, both walks are immensely entertaining – but if you want to ensure you capture everything around you, just add in the Treasure Hunt to ramp up the fun. Follow the directions, and keep to the map! Children find them hugely enjoyable. Younger children (primary school age) should always be accompanied by an adult who will get actively involved - you can give them a specific role, e.g. matching pictures to clues, finding the answers, or managing the map, etc.

Other Yorkshire Curious About walks can be found at Whitby, Harrogate, Hull, York (2 sets of walks), Leeds, Bradford, Ripon and Sheffield
