About
The Church of Saint Mary is an Anglican parish church serving the town of Whitby. St Mary's church stands upon it's original 11th century foundation, and bears the mark of centuries passed since, making it a remarkable, historic and unique church. It has many interesting and unusual features, and attracts a great many visitors. However, far from being merely a tourist attraction, it remains primarily a wonderful place of worship for locals and visitors, who stand in the place of countless generations of Christians before them.
The Church sits on the East Cliff overlooking the town and is at the top of the famous 199 steps. The church graveyard is used as the setting of Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula.
