About

This attractive route of around 7 miles takes in the spelndour and drama of the beautiful Yorkshire Coastline and Countryside. The takes around 3-4 hours with plenty of photo opportunities and even a cafe en route after Saltwick Bay.

Starting at Whitby Abbey, pick up the signs for the Clevelnad Way National Trail and then follow south towards Robin Hood's Bay. If you are bringing a dog it is advisable to keep them on a lead as the sheer drops can be dangerous to dogs off lead.

The route is highly enjoyable taking in beautiful Saltwick Bay, where you can see the wreck of the Admiral Von Tromp - a reminder of the dangerous reef that has clamied many a ship and lives.

Further down you will encounter the Hornblower cafe, situated in a former foghorn station, providing a lovely and welcome stop off with great sea views.

Arriving in Robin Hood's Bay you will find the winding streets and smuggling and fishing history an absolute charm along with places to eat and places to drink.

An alternative way back is via the Cinder Track (the old Scarborough to Whitby Railway). There is also a regular bus route from Robin Hood's Bay back to Whitby (Arriva X93/X94).
