Honouring Britain’s Armed Forces - past, present and future

After the triumph of last year’s national event, Scarborough’s popular Armed Forces Day celebration is set to return in style this summer.

Expect the usual packed programme of jaw dropping displays, spectacular parades, musical performances, interactive exhibits and much more.

11.00 Welcome by the Town Crier for the Borough of Scarborough
11.30 Miles Messenger Air Display
11:00 Standards march onto the Formal Area and form up in front of the saluting dais
12.00 - 13.00 Formal Opening
                      Town Crier calls on all assembled to the opening of the event, the
                      Yorkshire Volunteers Band marches into the Formal Area and plays
                      Standards Parade
                      Formal opening and welcome by the Vice Chairman of North Yorkshire
                      Council Councillor Roberta Swiers
                      Presentation of Veterans Badges by Major General Michael Charlton-Weedy CBE DL
                      The Yorkshire Volunteers Band marches off, and event officially starts
13:00 The Titans Air Display Team
14:00 The Starlings Aerobatic Team
14:30 Scarborough Sea Cadets Band Performance
15:30 The Strikemasters Air Display
16:20 Standards, Veterans and Cadets Parade led by Queen’s Own Yeomanry and Yorkshire Volunteers Band
16:30 Review of Parade at the Formal Area
          Parade Marshal to invite the VIPs including Major General Michael
          Charlton-Weedy CBE DL to review the parade
          Presentation of Armed Forces Day Flags
16:45 Sunset Ceremony
          Led by Yorkshire Volunteer Band with closing prayers by the Reverend Richard Walker
          Closing Words by Major General Michael Charlton-Weedy CBE DL
          Yorkshire Volunteer Band conclude with National Anthem
          Three Cheers for HM Armed Forces led by Town Crier
16.55 Parade marches off with salute taken by Major General Michael Charlton-Weedy CBE DL

By Road: Follow signs for Scarborough's South Bay. From the South end of the bay you will come along Foreshore Road. From Peasholm Park in the North Bay, go on seafront along Royal Albert Drive, Marine Drive and Sandside. By Public transport: There is a regular No.6 bus service from the town centre down to the West Pier in the South Bay (day time only). Current timetable at www.eyms.co.uk
