May Half Term

About

This May half term, kids go free at the NYMR - so spring aboard and fill the break with family fun!
Bring the whole family and have fun together whilst discovering four historic Yorkshire stations, explore our locomotive restoration sheds and meet our army of dedicated volunteers who bring the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to life.

Hop on board our heritage carriages for a nostalgic trip along 24 miles of heritage railway, between Pickering and the seaside town of Whitby. See views of the North York Moors National Park pass you by, whilst sitting in the comfort of the historic carriages, taking in the sights and sounds of this popular living museum and attraction. The railway is brought to life by the team of volunteers who are happy to share stories to spread the excitement, knowledge, and smiles.

For those looking to explore Goathland Station, which was Hogsmeade Station in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, why not come and try our new Station Stories app, funded by National Lottery Heritage Fund. This fun and interactive App is now available to download enabling passengers to explore and learn about the history of Goathland Station. Find out the fascinating stories behind the buildings and the people who have worked there through the hotspot tour and fun games. The app also includes an audio descriptive tour to accompany the visit. The Station Stories app is available on Apple and Android.

For train enthusiasts and families alike, it's an experience not to be missed. During a visit to the heritage railway, passengers will get the opportunity to explore the heritage stations and engine sheds to see how the engineers maintain and conserve the locomotives and can treat themselves to delicious, tasty treats at one of the iconic tea rooms at Pickering, Goathland and Grosmont, or the tea hut at Levisham.
