Empty red seats in a theatre

About

As part of their BA Acting Degree at CU Scarborough the first module studied is Movement for Actors. Only six weeks ago these 5 Acting students didn't know each other, me, or much about the physical and expressive capabilities of the human body! Throughout the six weeks we have explored a variety of movement techniques, text, relationships, emotion, and Practitioners - focusing mainly on Rudolph Laban's Movement Analysis.

Taking inspiration from a variety of sources including The Rise and Fall of Little Voice (Jim Cartwright), Twelfth Night (Shakespeare), Build a Rocket (Christopher York), Blood Brothers (Willy Russell) and The Breakfast Club (John Hughes film) and 2 incredible professional workshops with 'Told By an Idiot' and 'Gecko Theatre', we have managed to create a dynamic, emotionally-driven piece of movement theatre.

This first year little company have worked extremely hard experiencing a huge learning curve in a medium that, six weeks ago, they either knew very little about or had lots of negative impressions of. They have been trusting, enthusiastic, experimental, courageous, and intelligent in their explorations - despite their bodies having taken a serious beating!

This is also the group's final assessment in this module - which must include a 5-minute solo each - so, a huge thank you for your support.

I am very proud of the group and the show that we have produced. I hope you enjoy 'You Say I Am' as much as we have loved creating it!
