Basics Plus was formed in 1990 to provide training and work experience for people with special needs. Over the years the organisation has developed projects which not only benefit people with learning disabilities but, provides valued and much needed services to the local community. Through a range of activities Basics Plus is making a significant contribution to the region's rapidly expanding social economy.

Here some examples of what they get up to:

SOFA (Shifting Old Furniture Around) provides a community furniture service giving local people on low income access to good quality used and reconditioned furniture. This project has enabled many people to move from inadequate or no accommodation into furnished homes at a minimal cost.

Basics Plus produces a range of quality, handmade greetings cards, flower arrangements and gifts which are retailed through the Basics Plus Head Office and the SOFA Warehouse.

Basics Plus Waste Paper Project provides a paper collection service to the local business community. Students grade, sort and despatch waste paper for recycling. Basics Plus continues to explore other recycling opportunities which lessen the impact of industrial and domestic waste upon the local environment.

Basics Plus cater for all events including: Office Lunches, Meetings, Parties, Weddings, Funerals, Christening ans many more.
