Dog Friendly Beaches

Here on the Yorkshire Coast, we have some of the best beaches in the land and we think it's only fair that our canine friends get a fair share of these local privileges. For dog owners (and lovers), there is no better feeling than watching them bound, hop and leap in the sea on a dog friendly beach, followed by a quick shake-off and running until their heart's content over our sweeping, sandy bays.Nevertheless, we want our visitors and residents to enjoy the beaches too and from the 1 May - 30 September, Scarborough Borough and East Riding of Yorkshire councils have put in place a bylaw that states no person in charge of a dog (other than a trained assistance dog) will, without reasonable excuse, be allowed on the following beaches:

Cayton Bay - There is no restriction on this beach for dogs.

Filey - Please click here to see a map of the dog prohibitied area in Filey.

Hunmanby Gap - There is no restriction on this beach for dogs.

Scarborough - Please click here to see a map of the dog prohibitied area in Scarborough.

Whitby - Please click here to see a map of the dog prohibitied area in Whitby.

Sandsend - The beach from the steps below the public conveniences below Sandhills to the slipway at the southern end of Bank Bottom Car Park.
