Art Exhibition, Sun 5 Jan 2020, £3

A rare opportunity to see a series of intricate hand-coloured
maps by contemporary artist, Kathy Prendergast. Charting
the contours and coordinates of Minnesota, Mount Fuji,
Chimborazo and the Himalayas, the maps encourage the viewer
to look beyond the surface and think about what maps can tell
us about the wider world and the society that has produced
them. Alongside Prendergast’s work are a selection of teaching
maps by female geography students from Bedford College
(now Royal Holloway, University of London). To accompany the exhibition Invisible Dust and Scarborough Museums Trust are delighted to exhibit a copy of the first geological map of England, Wales and Scotland produced by geologist, William ‘Strata’ Smith, with 2019 marking the 250th anniversary of his birth. This exhibition is curated by Invisible Dust for Scarborough
Museums Trust, with support from Arts Council England.
