A Guide to Yorkshire's Tour de Phantome

Take a strange and supernatural trip to Yorkshire’s Otherworld!

Many of the places connected with our strange and supernatural past are off the beaten track, so are best seen by foot or by bike; and this area has also starred in every Tour de Yorkshire, Britain’s favourite road race and a highlight of the international cycling calendar. So, we thought it was time to introduce a new highlight to the winter outdoor calendar, making the most of our great British outdoors – the Tour de Phantome.

There are five eerie étapes (stages) within the Yorkshire Tour de Phantome:

• Pedalling Phantoms: a Yorkshire Coast rollercoaster between Whitby & Ravenscar
• Gearing up for Ghosts: off the beaten track in the North York Moors National Park
• Steam Spectres: on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the Ryedale Market Town of Pickering
• Soulful Steps: a walk from the Ryedale Market Town of Helmsley to Rievaulx Abbey
• Fiendish Filey: a baffling beach walk with sea-dragons, spectres and shipwreck graveyards…

Some of these adventures are epic, but this Tour is JUST FOR FUN – it’s not a competition. You can go as far as you fancy, picking your favourite routes or visiting a particularly hot or cold spot! You can break it up on a longer journey by staying overnight in between; or just hop from place to place depending on how you feel. These tours are part of a vast network of paths, bridleways and trackways, so there’s always plenty of choice if you want to take a long or short cut – and you can travel by bike, on foot, or by horseback. At your own pace!
