Whitby Fish and Ships Festival

The Whitby Fish and Ships festival will take place from 18th May 2019 and will commence with a launch weekend followed by a weeklong promotion of Whitby’s Seafood and Fishing Heritage. 

The event will include – Seafood Trail, Seafood cooking demonstrations with celebrity (Brian Turner and Jean Christoph Novelli) and local chefs, angling competition, rowing competition, special exhibitions & talks showcasing Whitby’s fishing heritage past and present, sea shanty music, film screenings, sculpture trail, fish filleting demonstrations & BBQ, children’s activities and entertainment, performances by local schools, special seafood dishes and creations across many businesses within Whitby and surrounding area.

Tours of the North Eastern Guardian Fisheries protection vessel will also be available. 

PR focus will be looking to tell the stories of fishing families, dishes being created within Whitby’s restaurants and cafes using all types of seafood and Whitby’s connection to the Fishing industry.

The event will also focus on the different types of fish available to use and the recipes that can be created.

  • Special Exhibition in Pannett Art Gallery on Dora Walker

  • Talks from local fishermen (Fred Normandale/Arnold Locker) in Whitby library,           childrens workshops & special exhibition
  • Children’s animation workshop in Whitby Library from an animator from Wallace       and Gromit - Virpi Kettu (from Finland)
  • Live music and sea shanty’s
  • Craft stalls
  • Special exhibition Captain Cook Memorial Museum & HM Bark Endeavour
