** Scarborough Goldwing Light Parade ** 8th September 2018

A light and sound spectacular.

The glittering Goldwing Light Parade & Fireworks Display has become a popular tradition for Scarborough, bringing thousands of bike fans from around the UK to the South Bay for a FREE seafront party every September. Goldwing motorcycles sporting neon lights transport a fleet of riders on a procession around the Marine Drive, illuminating both sides of the shoreline, before the night is closed out with a show-stopping fireworks display.

First held in 2008, the Goldwing Light Parade has built a reputation for its unique atmosphere. The site of the stunning motorcycles, decked with flourescent lights, blaring music from the bikes' loudspeakers and driven by riders in fancy dress all adds up to create a truly fantastic spectacle. No matter what your age you're sure to find yourself captivated by the vivid visual display and aural assault as the bikes roar past you on the sea front.

The Goldwing Light Parade & Fireworks Display has won a deserved reputation as the first name for good time family fun in Scarborough, and we invite you to come down and join us for the party....

Britain’s finest Honda GoldWings, the world’s top touring motorbikes, will be on display on Scarborough’s West Pier and in Foreshore Road on Saturday 8th September 2018 from 10.00am until 4.00pm. Then at 8.00pm they leave West Pier for a dazzling parade along the North and South Bays’ promenades, all in aid of Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The Scarborough GoldWing Light Parade is one of the UK’s most glitzy GoldWing charity events and it all takes place beside the beach, followed by a fabulous fireworks display fired from the South Bay Beach about 9.30pm, courtesy of the South Bay Traders’ Association. A great weekend break for the whole family so book your accommodation early to avoid disappointment!

Raising money for fantastic causes

Since the Goldwing Light Parade debuted in Scarborough in 2008 the event has raised over £62,000 for the R.N.L.I Scarborough and Filey Lifeboat Stations. However, following the launch of the brand new lifeboat and construction of the new boathouse, this year the Goldwings will benefit another great cause; the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Dream bikes

The Goldwing Light Parade serves up a seaside smorgasbord of spectacular motorcycles for you to feast your eyes upon before the parade begins. Goldwings ranging from vintage models to modern, stereo and lighting-equipped bikes will be in attendance, so come along, speak to the riders and swap road stories with fellow enthusiasts.

A show-stopping end to the evening!

The breath-taking visuals on show at the Goldwing Light Parade are not the sole property of the motorcycles themselves; once the riders have completed their laps of the shoreline and parked the bikes, the night sky is lit up with a thunderous pyrotechnic display, compered by Yorkshire Coast Radio personality Patrick Billington.

Daytime Static Display

Before the evening's parade by night there will be a static display of the motorcycles, running from 10am to 4pm, on West Pier and Foreshore Road. Amongst the activities taking place during the six-hour display, the Mayor of Scarborough will judge his favourite trike and draw a raffle. Yorkshire Air Ambulance will run a gift shop and tombola.

The Evening Parade

Mustering for the parade begins from 6.30pm, giving the bikes ample time to arrange in parade formation. The parade starts at 8.00pm, leading the riders south along the Foreshore to the roundabout. From there the procession turns back along Foreshore Road and around Marine Drive, looping at Peasholm and returning to South Bay promenade.

Lost Children

We want everyone to have a great time during the Goldwing Light Parade, but sometimes children can become separated from adults.

Below are a few simple tipes to avoid getting separated and what to do if it should happen:

• At most events, most instances of children becoming separated from their parents happen during a display, as people get distracted. Please try to ensure you children are kept with you at all times.

• If a lost child has not been claimed by a parent, relative or carer within 20 minutes of being found by a staff member, then the police will be called.

• You may wish to provide your child with your mobile phone number on a piece of paper to keep in their pocket. This may help with quick contact should you become separated.

Event Safety

There will be a first aid point located on West Pier. If you or someone you are with suffers an injury or is feeling unwell, please notify an event steward immediately, who will arrange for medical assistance.

Please check expected weather conditions before travelling, bringing appropriate suncream and fluids with you if warm temperatures are expected. There will be many outlets along the seafront area selling drinks to keep you hydrated throughout the day.

Listen for safety announcements during the day and follow the safety advice given by events stewards or security at all times.

Please do not bring glass bottles or glasses to the event and please help keep our beautiful seafront tidy by using the bins provided. Thank you.
